Higher Fees for American Airlines

American Airlines (AA) has changed its domestic and international change fees and its baggage fees.

CHANGE FEES

Domestic change fee -- $150
(some exceptions may apply)

International change fees
(differ depending on the destination):

Europe -- $250
Caribbean -- $150

BAGGAGE FEE

First checked bag -- $15 each way or $30 round trip

Applies to domestic economy class tickets purchased on or after June 15 of this year

Applies to travel between and within:

• United States
• Canada
• Puerto Rico
• U.S. Virgin Islands

Does not apply to:

• active duty military passengers
• business or first class passengers
• premium frequent flyers
• full-fare economy passengers

(The new first checked bag fee is in addition to the second bag fee of $25 or $50 roundtrip, which went into effect earlier this month)

Travel agents are advised to:

• Review all airlines' change fees and restrictions
• Review all airlines' checked bag fees
• Include a disclosure notice on invoices and itineraries
• Make customers aware of the new baggage fee
