Sandals Cancels Surcharge

Sandals Resorts has cancelled plans to implement a surcharge of $4 per person per night (up to $8 per room per night) to their Jamaican room rates. This non-refundable charge, which was meant to help offset the rising cost of fuel, was cancelled a week after Sandals announced it, but before the charge would have been put into effect on January 1, 2008.

Gordon "Butch" Stewart, chairman of Sandals Resorts, said in a statement, "...we respect and highly value the opinion of our travel partners who are on the consumer frontlines. We always want to do what is in their best interest and therefore after much discussion with them, we feel that now is not the time to enact this new policy."
